Inclement Weather

Inclement Weather Protocol

Traditionally, if possible, we will make decisions in regards to canceling school due to inclement weather as soon as possible. The rule of thumb is to cancel prior to our cooks and bus drivers arriving on campus. Notification will include our emergency text system (see Remind Tab for directions on signing up for the emergency text system), along with our local radio stations KMMO & KRES. Our school calendar for the upcoming school year always has a chronological list of potential make-up days included.

If we dismiss early due to inclement weather, we will use the same strategy as described above in terms of notifying our parents and patrons in a timely manner. In the past years, our district has also implemented late starts to the school day. Again, the same strategy as mentioned above and as a rule of thumb, the announcement is made on the day or evening before the late start is to occur. The main factor for this decision hinges on the forecasted wind chill for the next morning. If it is projected to be well below zero we will look into the possibility of starting later as we have several students who walk to school and have several students who wait for a bus to pick them up. Other considerations include but are not limited to such things as ice, snow, freezing rain, sleet, or heavy fog. On late starts days, our custodial staff and support staff will arrive at normal times unless unforeseen circumstances occur pertaining to the inclement weather.

Early Out Dismissal Procedure:

All Jr. High/High School students will go to the advisory. Students will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. and will have the following options:

  • If driving/riding with another JH/HS student/adult ride in the lower lot

  • Eat in the cafeteria and then leave school grounds

Or

  • Leave school grounds when 11:40 dismissal is announced.

  • All JH/HS bus riders, walkers/drivers that are taking HS, PK & Elementary

  • Students with them (those eating and those not eating lunch)

  • Will bring things and report to the cafeteria at 11:40. Students will remain in the cafeteria until they are told to dismiss for the bus. When dismissing the cafeteria, they will use the stairs by the library and wait in the hallway by the elementary office (like an ordinary day).
