Inclement Weather

Inclement Weather Protocol

Traditionally, if possible, we will make decisions in regard to canceling school due to inclement weather as soon as possible.  The rule of thumb is to cancel prior to our cooks and bus drivers arriving on campus.  Notification will include announcements via TeacherEase, the Glasgow School District Facebook Page, along with our local radio stations KMMO & KRES.  Our school calendar for the upcoming school year always has a chronological list of potential make-up days included.

If we dismiss early due to inclement weather, we will use the same strategy as described above in terms of notifying our parents and patrons in a timely manner.  In the past years, our district has also implemented late starts to the school day.  Again, the same strategy as mentioned above, and as a rule of thumb, the announcement is made on the day or evening before the late start is to occur.  The main factor for this decision hinges on the forecasted wind chill for the next morning.  If it is projected to be well below zero we will look into the possibility of starting later as we have several students who walk to school and several students who wait for a bus to pick them up.  Other considerations include but are not limited to such things as ice, snow, freezing rain, sleet, or heavy fog.  On late start days, our custodial staff and support staff will arrive at normal times unless unforeseen circumstances occur pertaining to the inclement weather.

The district may utilize Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) days due to inclement weather. If the district plans to have an AMI day, notification will include our emergency communication system, our website, the school's Facebook page, along with our local radio stations KMMO and KRES (if possible).
